happy weekend

I need a rug. Now these ones from Anthropologie aren't even close to what I'm willing to pay for a 4x6 but I have to admit, they are gorgeous. Especially these first two.

So, what's the plan this weekend? How are you celebrating? With in the past 2 years, I have been either unemployed or employed part time/almost full time. There have been some months where I have had several jobs or gigs going at once and other times where I've had only one or two. This has resulted in an extremely flexible schedule and although that might sound ideal, it can be difficult to to get things done when there's a lack of routine that's found in a scheduled workday. I've become accustomed to working in small bits every day of the week without fully appreciating a weekend off. Slightly shorter work days was certainly a perk but it wasn't until I realized how valuable those weekend days were that I started to establish more routine and discipline into my work week. Whatever you're doing this weekend, even if work is unavoidable, do something out of routine and enjoyable. Even if it's finding time to have a coffee with a friend, going for a quiet run or sitting down with a book you've been meaning to read. Take time off from whatever you fill your week with and feel good about it.

happy weekend!

Thought I'd end the week with the rest of the truck picnic photos found via Kiss The Groom last week. I'm super aware of props when I'm photo browsing-- this one's loaded.

And here's a little kitchen action--

Man, I just can't get enough of reclaimed wood.  The old tobacco barns around Connecticut (they're everywhere) taunt me with their beautiful hinged boards that fan out allowing the tobacco to breathe during the drying process. Every time I pass one by I think, what a beautiful piece of furniture that would make!

Happy weekend-- I hear it's going to be amazing.

prop styling

I love these images from Randi Bookman Harris's portfolio. Offering services in Prop Styling and Creative Direction, Randi contributes to major publications like JCrew, Kate Spade, Martha Stewart and Real Simple.

Happy weekend to all! It looks as if this might be the last of peak foliage for all New England so enjoy it! As for me, back to sourcing materials for new garland that will be posted these next couple weeks. So exciting...

happy weekend!

Today's post is inspired by the latest treasury post (below) entitled, Paper Art curated by Jewlswashere. There were so many thumbnails that caught my eye, I wanted to share more of their work in a small paper round-up this morning. You might remember Jewlswashere from an earrings for garland trade I posted back in March.

happy weekend!

A happy weekend indeed! I am loving this autumn weather, it feels so nice to bundle up a little after such a hot summer. Check the friday round up this week, it's a beauty!
If you love these bikes as much as I do, visit the Electra website and check out the Amsterdam, Townie and cruiser line.

And these Bensimon shoes will definitely be making it to my Christmas list this year.

It's so strange being in between seasons like this. There are still an abundance of tomatoes left on the vine and now that Macoun apples are at their prime, I feel so torn! Food in Jars has been posting some excellent tomato recipes specific to canning and preserving. I'm looking forward to making tomato sauce, canning whole tomatoes, drying tomatoes and maybe I'll be able to squeeze some salsa this year. Oh the possibilities are endless!

Have an excellent weekend and I hope you enjoy bundling up... just a little.

so tasty

Happy Friday! I have a bunch of images to share with you this morning all of which involve... baked goodies! I baked a cake the other day on a whim and it reminded me how therapeutic baking can be. What a great stress-reliever, outside of all that sugar you end up with afterwards sitting on your kitchen counter tempting you for days...

The cake I made this past week was a Pistachio Olive Oil Cake with a Fig Compote Filling and a Cream Cheese Frosting, a recipe snagged from Ming Thompson recently featured on design*sponge.

Take a peek at the cupcakes from Ming's website where she posts recipes for each one!

[1] Coconut Rum Cupcake with Cream Cheese Frosting [2] Red Velvet Cupcake with Butter Cream Frosting [3] Vanilla Cupcake with Lemon Filling and Meringue Frosting [4] Sour Cream Fig Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting [5] Sis's Chocolate Cupcakes with Chocolate Frosting [6] Pumpkin Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting [7] Gingerbread Cupcakes with Fluffy Cream Cheese Filling [8] Flourless Beet Chocolate Cupcakes with Whipped Cream

I'm not big on recipe cards and boxes but these are by far the loveliest ones I've come across.

Happy weekend everyone from Connecticut where Mcoun apples are officially in season, my absolute favorite time of the year! Only 6 more days until our local orchard starts pressing apples for their famous [unpasteurized] cider! Ahhh, Perfection.

happy weekend

Thanks to all of you who have been following this week! Writing on this blog sometimes feels a bit silly... but the truth is, giving myself a reason to write little tidbits about design and inspiring people has given me more discipline and has reorganized my creative process. It's little exercises like this that help me move forward and enable me to reach goals I set for myself, something I've been in desperate need of. Thanks to all you who have periodically checked in, it's nice to know that you're there.

For those of you who might be new to the blog, friday is all about inspiration. Some photos are gathered from an endless, unorganized folder of images saved over the past couple of years, while others are compiled each week. Without further a due...

I spotted this new book Creative Inc. in stores this week. It's basically a "how to" be a successful freelance creative and covers everything from portfolio work to dealing the legal issues of starting a business. The writers? Meg Mateo Ilasco and Joy Deangdeelert Cho, founder of Oh Joy. Check out this little promo video they made to kick off the book tour.

I found a website yesterday courtesy of Artisans Collective called Factory 20, a company that collects beautiful, unique, vintage items including furniture, lighting, art, objects and even apparel. There are truly some amazing finds on this site, all of which are for sale and for rent. What a great prop source for photo shoots, films, events etc...

the week's end

The weekend is finally here and I am thrilled! It's been a difficult week getting back on track with all of my part-time gigs but now that the weekend is here I'm going to breathe and steadily work away at that list. I've just finished listening/watching to the video series for blog and business owners by Grace from design*sponge. The third video (my favorite) includes tips for productivity, time management and delegation... super helpful. Check it out:

You can find the first two clips here.

Also, check out these two interior shots from the Mimou collection found via decor8. I love how simple and undistinguished each of these objects are individually but when styled an composed properly... oh perfection.

Any big plans this weekend? With September around the corner, I feel like this summer is slipping away from me! I think a nice long bike ride will do me good. And I'm pretty sure it's raspberry season...

happy weekend!

Happy weekend! The show will be taken down this evening and I finally have some pictures to show from our artist reception last night. Check them out on the new blog I created for the gallery.

oh craziness

What a day! My group is heading to NH this afternoon (after we pick blueberries, of course) with two cars full of gallery supplies, artwork and lots of food! Next week will include full updates about the gallery building and installation process so stay tuned...

In the mean time, here's a couple photos found on oh joy! before we head north.

happy weekend

Ciao tutti. If you're reading this... congratulations! It's friday, you've made it! Hopefully this is the beginning of what will be a refreshing weekend. As for me... it will be weekend of building shelves, wall framing, and maybe even some screen printing for the Upper Room Gallery exhibit in New Hampshire which takes place two weeks from now. With deadlines approaching and lists of things to accomplish this weekend will certainly be a busy one. My new favorite weekend activity is biking to the Lake Congamond region of Mass. from Farmington Valley, CT on the bike path, what used be the old railroad, now part of the Rails to Trails initiative. There's a great cafe called Red Riding Hood's Basket right off of the path next to the lakes- the perfect way to kick off the weekend.

Some of you might know of the Etsy team I'm a part of called the Artisans Collective, a group of Etsy sellers with a commitment to creating quality handmade goods that inspire. I received a link through the team grapevine naming the top 50 design blogs on The Sunday Times based out of London. I found a few that I check out daily along with new ones that I plan on adding to my list. Here's the top 5...

Check some of these out or visit the Sunday Times article naming all 50. Below you'll find a clever Cafe poster designed by Plaid Creative and some beautiful picnic and outdoor event shots found on design* sponge.

Happy weekend everyone!

oh lovely day

Even though the forecast is a bit shady today, Friday remains a beautiful day. Lucky for me, I've had practically the whole week off, playing catch up and working through that list of things to do/finish that never ceases to exist. It was a steady-paced productive week, which is hard for me to achieve these days. I was EVEN able to make a little headway on a new product that will be appearing in my Etsy shop by the end of the month! It involved the purchase of a rivet gun that which to my relief, is working beautifully.
Now for the inspiration. I can proudly say that today every image today is accounted for - enjoy!

Have anything good going on this weekend? Every year as the warm weather fades and fall kicks in I begin to think of everything I meant to do during the summer which is why I am desperately trying to make the most of my weekends over the next couple months. Hopefully that means there will be plenty of beach days as well as a kite festival or two in my future... Happy weekend everyone!
