screech owl designs

I cam across a link to the website of Screech Owl Designs, via design*sponge and found an abundance of charming notecards that are informal, modern and suitable for any occasion. I love the quality of line in their illustrations and use of color and pattern that add so much character to their style.

"At Screech Owl Design, we believe that the romance and charm of a handwritten note is priceless. Each note is a diminutive work of art that can make a personal journey from one friend to another. We are delighted to play a small part in these gestures of community and acts of thoughfulness and sharing."

Take a look at the prints and box sets that are also for sale on their site along with their recent mention on design*sponge.

Just received Creative Inc. in the mail and can't wait to start reading it. I'm in the process of re-branding, re-designing and business planning so I'm hoping to learn a thing or two and be inspired to move forward in developing my ideas!

Here's a link to one Joy Deangdeelert's blog Oh Joy! where you'll find a little bit more about the book as well as book signing dates and a creative stop-motion promo film made for the book's debut. Check out amazon for decent prices for both new and used copies.

happy weekend

Thanks to all of you who have been following this week! Writing on this blog sometimes feels a bit silly... but the truth is, giving myself a reason to write little tidbits about design and inspiring people has given me more discipline and has reorganized my creative process. It's little exercises like this that help me move forward and enable me to reach goals I set for myself, something I've been in desperate need of. Thanks to all you who have periodically checked in, it's nice to know that you're there.

For those of you who might be new to the blog, friday is all about inspiration. Some photos are gathered from an endless, unorganized folder of images saved over the past couple of years, while others are compiled each week. Without further a due...

I spotted this new book Creative Inc. in stores this week. It's basically a "how to" be a successful freelance creative and covers everything from portfolio work to dealing the legal issues of starting a business. The writers? Meg Mateo Ilasco and Joy Deangdeelert Cho, founder of Oh Joy. Check out this little promo video they made to kick off the book tour.

I found a website yesterday courtesy of Artisans Collective called Factory 20, a company that collects beautiful, unique, vintage items including furniture, lighting, art, objects and even apparel. There are truly some amazing finds on this site, all of which are for sale and for rent. What a great prop source for photo shoots, films, events etc...
